Novice Nook # 34 Well, folks, in one sense, with this article we are officially at the halfway point in the journey. Heisman has posted 68 articles and we're reading #34. Yes, I know that he keeps adding an article a month so, in the end 34 is not the halfway point. But, heck, they could fire him tomorrow and there may never be another NN article! And, since he only posts one article a month and we read four, the psychological edge on our side grows ever greater!

If one of you wants to run the numbers and let us know what the other halfway point is in the future, that can be our next goal, although 50 looks enticing too.

This week's article is all text. It's called "Traits of a Good Chessplayer". I think he nails it pretty well. Here's the link:

Another good article, I only gave it a quick read (almost caught up now!) but it looks like it contains a lot of very important information on what is really required to get good - I think most people could improve by simply trying to assimilate some of the mentioned qualities. I'm pretty certain that the personality and emotional factors he mentioned can be quite essential to progress. I know people who are very 'intelligent' yet lack a competetive edge or determination and that slight difference in character makes a huge difference in their potential for progess in most things they do.

Very interesting article, especially the bit about physical stamina in chess! I thought it was more of a mental game but having the right guts etc can improve chess play. Definately something to think about.
